About Laura Goodall

I’m Laura Goodall, a Breastfeeding Counsellor in Plymouth offering gentle, non-judgemental feeding support tailored to you and your baby.

Shortly after qualifying as a doctor in 2011, I became a mother to my daughter and son, now 12 and 10. Breastfeeding my own children opened my eyes to just how overwhelming the challenges, decisions and expectations around feeding can feel during early motherhood.

This transition into motherhood, often called matrescence, is one of the most significant changes a woman can experience. It’s a time that deserves compassionate and informed care, and that belief has shaped the work I do today.

In 2017, I trained as a breastfeeding peer supporter and began volunteering at my local Latch-On group giving infant feeding support in Plymouth. I later trained as a Breastfeeding Counsellor, giving mothers breastfeeding support through the National Breastfeeding Helpline, and also completed the OCN Level 4 Tongue Tie and Infant Feeding qualification.

I now have almost ten years’ experience supporting new mothers with infant feeding. I am registered with the Federation of Antenatal Educators and have also trained in advanced coaching and mentoring techniques.

My approach combines evidence-informed, practical feeding help with emotional support, coaching and mentoring. I aim to help you to navigate feeding your baby in a way that centres you as a mother, aligns with your values and goals, and is free from judgement or unrealistic expectations.

Whether you need help with latching, painful breastfeeding, low milk supply, combination feeding, or simply a safe and supportive space to talk through your feeding journey, I would love to work with you. I offer local home visits in Plymouth, as well as online and telephone feeding support.

I’ve learnt that many breastfeeding challenges can often be improved with compassionate, skilled breastfeeding support. By giving you the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to breastfeed in a way that works for you, I hope to empower you to breastfeed your way.

  • Not at all. Feeding support is not only for times of crisis or difficulty. Many mothers benefit from reassurance, guidance and emotional support even when feeding is generally going well.

Sometimes having space to talk things through, ask questions and feel supported can make a huge difference to your confidence and overall feeding experience.

  • Yes — many mothers feel overwhelmed at times during their feeding journey. Feeding a baby can bring physical, emotional and mental challenges, especially alongside the huge transition into motherhood.

You are not expected to know everything instinctively, and seeking support is never a sign of failure. My role is to offer compassionate, non-judgemental support so that you feel informed, supported and less alone.

  • Breastfeeding support is for any mother who would like practical, emotional or informational support with feeding their baby. You do not need to be experiencing significant difficulties to benefit from support.

  • I offer gentle, non-judgemental breastfeeding and infant feeding support tailored to you and your baby. This may include support with latching, painful breastfeeding, low milk supply concerns, combination feeding, stopping breastfeeding, emotional support around feeding, or simply helping you feel more confident and informed in your feeding journey.

My approach combines practical feeding support with compassionate guidance, helping you find a way forward that aligns with your values, goals and family life.

  • During a session, we will talk through your feeding experience, any challenges or concerns you are having, and the kind of support you feel would be most helpful.

Sessions are gentle, collaborative and tailored to you and your baby. Depending on your needs, we may explore feeding positions, attachment, responsive feeding, practical strategies, emotional support, or simply create space for you to feel heard and supported.

  • Yes. Painful feeding and latching difficulties are very common, particularly in the early weeks. I can help you explore feeding positions, attachment, responsive feeding cues and practical strategies that may improve comfort and feeding effectiveness.

Many breastfeeding difficulties can improve with good support, guidance and reassurance.

  • Concerns about milk intake are incredibly common and can feel very anxiety-provoking for parents. Together, we can talk through your feeding experience, your baby’s feeding behaviour, nappies, weight gain and any concerns you may have.

My aim is to help you feel more informed, reassured and confident while also encouraging appropriate medical or specialist support where needed.

  • Absolutely - feeding support should never be all-or-nothing. Some mothers wish to combination feed, reduce feeds, transition away from breastfeeding, or simply explore what feels sustainable for them and their family.

My support is always centred around you, your wellbeing and your individual goals, without judgement or pressure.

  • Yes — I offer breastfeeding support for families across Plymouth through home visits, where available. Supporting you in your own environment can often help feeding feel more relaxed and comfortable for both you and your baby.

I provide non-medical breastfeeding and feeding support, and I will always encourage families to access appropriate medical, specialist or IBCLC support where needed.
